Still Loving : Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish

Here it is again, the coveted holy grail skincare product from Liz Earle. I repurchased this a couple of weeks ago after a little break, and as soon as I used it again I remembered why I used to love it so much. When I first tried the Cleanse & Polish I wrote about it here back in 2012 and loved it.

The 100ml tube comes in a mint green bag with two muslin cloths folded around it, and even as I unzipped the outer packaging I could smell the familiar smell of Eucalyptus. 

Everything about this product is the same as it was when I last bought it, which is no bad thing! It still has the thick creamy consistency which glides onto the skin easily, and still doesn't cause any irritation. That's one thing I've always loved about this product - even around the eye area (and, on a couple of drunken occasions in the eye...) there's no soreness or sensitivity. Every scrap of make-up is removed and the muslin cloth exfoliates to get rid of any dead skin.

I use this with the cloth and have used it with my Clarisonic. It's most effective with the cloth that's provided, but when mine's in the wash it's not too bad with the spinning face brush too.

Ultimately, this is the same as every review you've probably already read; buy this product and then use it until it's empty and then buy it again etc, etc, etc.

Superdrug's Naturally Radiant Hot Cloth Cleanser

Over the years beauty bloggers and skin care fanatics alike have relied on hot cloth cleansers to remove make-up, exfoliate and nourish skin all with the help of warm water and a muslin cloth. The most coveted of the hot cloth cleaners has to be Liz Earle's cleanse and polish, but own brand dupes have been popping up since then. Superdrug released their Vitamin E hot cloth cleanser last year but their newest offering is the Naturally Radiant range, including eye cream, moisturiser, micro-exfoliant and the hot cloth cleanser.

Using kiwi, mulberry and cocoa butter extracts this creamy cleanser nourishes and brightens while the slightly abrasive surface of the muslin cloth exfoliates any dead skin cells or build up on the surface.
The difference between this cleanser and Liz Earle's is that it should be applied to clean skin rather than unwashed skin. I like this because I always worry that I'm just rubbing make up into my pores when I apply the cream without having previously removed my make-up.

In terms of the brightening element I don't notice a huge difference but I have certainly noticed that my skin has been clearer over the last couple of weeks and my skin tone has become much more even. When used with other products in the range I'm sure they work together to promote a healthy glow. I've been using this alongside the micro polish scrub which is a soft gel like cleanser with grainy particles (again containing kiwi and mulberry extracts). I really like using both of these on alternating days followed by a light moisturiser (which will be in another post this week, promise!) to cleanse my face at the beginning and end of each day.

I picked these up when they were on offer a few weeks ago but this hot cloth cleanser is £5.99 and the other products are between £5 - £6 pounds each. It's incredibly purse friendly and I believe it's an effective way to cleanse and nourish your skin without the use of harsh chemicals and fragrances!

Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser

So, we've all used the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanse and Polish by now and we all know it does the job (unless for you it doesn't.. in which case I'm sorry for your loss) but there are a few other very similar products rearing their heads on the market.

As I was shopping for some pre-holiday treats last week I saw this very similar product on Superdrug's shelves and for £5.99 there really was no reason not to buy it!

"Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser with muslin cloth is ideal for removing dirt and make-up whilst providing gentle exfoliation. This will help improve circulation, leaving skin deeply cleansed, soft and radiant. Enriched with naturally sourced Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that will help to shield your skin against environmental damage and premature ageing by combating the harmful effects of free radicals. The rich and creamy formula also contains a skin conditioning multivitamin complex comprising vitamins A, B, F and H, which combined with horse chestnut extract, helps to care for dry skin."

I've used it for just over a week now and I've got to say I really, really like it. It has a similar consistency to the Liz Earle cleanser; creamy and rich just like the description, but it smells very different. The Superdrug cleanser smells a bit like coconut I think but I could be completely off here. It's basically really similar Hawaiian Tropics sun oil in it's smell - yum!
It removed every bit of my make up that I could see, however I didn't use a toner afterwards so I couldn't check completely but I was impressed by how much of my eye make-up was removed.

My only negative point is the quality of the muslin cloth that comes in the box with the cleanser. When compared to the cloth provided with Liz Earle it's sadly not as good quality. This is unsurprising when you think that the Superdrug cleanser is a quarter of the price of the Liz Earle cleanser, but after only a few days of use my cloth had come apart at the seams and begun to fray quite badly.

So, since the only fault with this product is the quality of the cloth I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to try a hot cloth cleanser without breaking the bank. What's even more appealing is that Superdrug offer student discount to NUS card holders, yay for higher education!
